Fort Kolgrath from Towncraft TC3, now in Kolgrath's new server

The Wishing Well: A Time Capsule of Towncraft’s Heart

A Journey Through Towncraft’s History

Towncraft’s survival Minecraft server evolved through several iterations, each with its own story:

  • TC1: Our original world
  • TC1.5: Born from map corruption, we salvaged what we could
  • TC2: A fresh start after the corruption was too much
  • TC3: Adapting to major biome changes
  • TC4: The world where I hung up my admin hat

Fort Kolgrath and the Mysterious Well

During TC3, I constructed an enormous fortress named Fort Kolgrath. Within its walls stood a wishing well, secretly connected to a hopper system leading to my private basement. I’d often find the chest below filled with what I assumed was just discarded items, too busy to give it much thought.

When TC3 closed over seven years ago, I had no idea of the treasure trove hidden beneath the fort’s foundations.

A Surprising Discovery

Recently, I decided to bring Fort Kolgrath into my new server using a schematic. As I explored the recreated build, curiosity led me to that old basement chest. What I found left me speechless.

As I cleared out items, more filtered in – but these weren’t just random objects. Players had renamed items, turning them into heartfelt wishes and messages. Books filled with gratitude, pleas for absent friends to return, and touching sentiments lay hidden for over seven years.

The Wish That Hit Home

Among the many messages, one simple wish on a cobblestone block stood out: “to be just like kolgrath”. It brought tears to my eyes, embodying everything I had hoped to inspire in our community.

A Legacy of Kindness

I’ve always said that Towncraft had the best community in gaming, and this discovery reaffirmed that belief. Those kids who shared their hopes and dreams in our digital world have now grown up. They’ve graduated high school, finished college, and are making their mark on the world.

To all Towncraft players, wherever you are now: I am immensely proud of you. Thank you for sharing your time with me and for all the incredible memories we created together. The kindness and inclusivity you showed in our virtual world will undoubtedly make the real world a better place.

Your wishes may have been hidden for years, but their impact will last a lifetime.

12 years of minecraft and counting

I’m Kolgrath! I’ve been playing Minecraft since 2012. I created a popular family friendly server called Towncraft as a safe place for my kid Drakeot7 and I to play. Drake has since grown up, but I have 3 more kids who represent the next generation of Minecrafters!
